The Christian festival of Pentecost | Bethlehem Handicrafts

The Christian festival of Pentecost, also known as Whitsun, Whitsunday, or Whit Sunday in the UK, is a Christian liturgical holiday and season.

It's the 50th day after Easter (and the 10th day after Ascension day) which is why it's called Pentecost. It comes from the Greek word for “fiftieth” (pentecoste).

It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks as Jesus had promised after he rose from the dead.

About 3,000 believers were baptized on that day, which many consider to be the true beginning of the Christian Church.

Representing the deepest Christian ideals of compassion ad redemption, this olive wood cross from Bethlehem is a perfect addition to your Christian home. Various lines of the olive wood are playful around the shape of the wooden cross and the emotion of the Holy Spirit.

Always standing as a reminder and an ideal for you and your loved ones observed in the fourteen stations.

Philippians 2:8 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross”.

This olive wood cross has four glass capsules filled with 4 souvenirs from all over the Holy Land affixed on each corner of the Crucifix. These capsules include holy incense from the Nativity Church, Bethlehem soil, Jerusalem stone and dried olive leaves that collectively represent the essence of the Holy Land.

Here are our favorite bible verses about the Pentecost:

Exodus 34:22-43

22 “Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year. 23 Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel. 24 I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the LORD your God. 25 “Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Festival remain until morning. 26 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.” 27 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments. 29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai. 33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the LORD’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.

Acts 2:1-2

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:3-4

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 4:31

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

John 14:26

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14:16

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.
