The Feast of St. Joseph the Patron of Workers

The Feast of St. Joseph the Patron of Workers

The Bethlehem Handicrafts family wishes you a Happy Labor's Day! On this Labor's day let's remind ourselves the Patron of Workers. In 1955 Pope Pius XII established the Feast of "St. Joseph the Worker". At Bethlehem Handicrafts we believe that International Workers' Day (or Labor's Day) reflects Joseph's status as the patron of workers.

Saint Joseph the Carpenter

Notice the flowing lines of the robe and the superb proportions of this statue of Saint Joseph the Patron of Workers. This statue is a great addition anywhere and especially in Christian workplaces. It’ll be a constant reminder for the workers to regard their work as an instrument of sanctification and a means of growing in holiness.

Under the patronage of Saint Joseph, the craftsmen of Bethlehem carve a variety of olive wood statuettes from carefully aged and dried olive-wood found in Bethlehem, the Holy Land.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord, and not for yourselves. Remember that the Lord will reward you; you will receive what he has kept for his people. For Christ is the real master you serve” (Colossians 3:23-24).

One of the most important holy sites in Nazareth, which is located in the hills in the center of the Galilee, is St. Joseph’s Church.

St. Joseph’s Church is located adjacent and north to the Basilica. It is built according to early traditions over St. Joseph’s carpenter workshop, and later on redefined as the house of the holy family and Virgin’s Fountain, where it is said that the virgin washed the swaddling clothes of our Lord.

On this Labor's Day, we celebrate our humble, creative, and hardworking artisans. Every item bought from our website makes a change to the better to the lives of the Christian artisans in Bethlehem, helps us to advance the socioeconomic development within the Christian community in the Holy Land, and preserves the existence of the olive wood artisan trade in Palestine.
